Revlon Lip Butters: Fail

I really wanted to like these. So many people rave about them and even now months after their release they're still all over blogs, but I'm just failing to see what's so fantastic about them. What's going on people? I feel like I've been swindled! It's not often I'll be negative in my reviews, I usually research the things I buy and so have a pretty good idea what I'm getting. Even though I'd read plenty of rave reviews on these, one of the things I didn't expect was that there would be such a measly amount of product in the tube, I don't think I've seen one review mention how there's only half the amount of product that you'd normally get in a lipstick. Because of the balmy nature of these you need to reapply often too so they get used up really quickly- for these reasons the Revlon Lip Butters are not worth the hype for me. They're ok and I do use the two I have, but am far from ready to run out and buy the whole collection because I just don't think they're worth it.

Revlon Lip Butters cost £7.99 which I think most of us would agree is pretty pricey for a highsteet lipstick (or glorified lip balm in this case). Even when you do pay this sort of price for a lip product, you get between 3.5 and 4g of product which would last for months of daily use and topups. The Revlon Lip Butters contain just 2.55g of product, so basically what you're paying for is a bit of quilted plastic packaging. Seeing as these are more expensive than most highstreet lipsticks, I'd have thought there would be at least the standard amount of product in them. I'm quite surprised that these get raved about, if anything I'd think at  almost £8 for 2.55g of product people would be complaining not singing their praises?

Pigmentation-wise I think this collection is a pretty mixed bag from the swatches I've seen, some are really quite pigmented like Raspberry Pie and have the opacity of a lipstick. Others like Creme Brulee are much more sheer, and look just like a lip balm. I think the darker, more pigmented colours give you much more bang for your buck although I still don't think the price is justifiable. If Creme Brulee would have been three or four pounds and I could have used it more freely without thinking I was going to use the whole thing up in a week, maybe I'd have liked it better. It's a subtle nude and I quite like how it looks on, but the finish isn't much more than a lipgloss/balm. I think a lot of people loved the idea that these were suppose to be moisturising, but I don't find they hydrate my lips and all and actually leave them feeling quite sticky.

Overall, they're ok products. Had they been cheaper or more long wearing maybe I'd have loved them as much as everyone else, but £7.99 on a lip product that would be gone in a week if I topped up regularly doesn't seem worth it to me. If I bought more of these it would definitely be in the more pigmented shades because I do like Raspberry Pie, but I'm in no rush for more at the moment. I think there are a lot better lip products on the market, if I'd have known how unimpressed I'd be with these I'd have saved the £16 I spent on them and took myself off to Mac for a new lipstick instead.

Am I missing something? If you're a fan please fill me in, what's the hype all about?!
