Tomorrow is the first official day of autumn, and rather than sitting around moping about how cold and grey it's starting to get I'd thought I'd cheer myself up by reflecting on some of my most loved pieces of makeup from the summertime. Even though we had a major heat wave this summer which threatened to melt every scrap of makeup from my face, I persevered and powered through like a true beauty addict (plus I'm one hell of a scary Mary with a bare face, and so a bit of cosmetic coverup was needed in the interest of public kindness). I'm guilty of sticking with a lot of my staple products no matter what the season, but there were a few things I found myself using especially for the warmer months. Here are some of the products I used to perk up my face throughout the summer time!

Bourjois Cream Blush in Nude Velvet
I was a bit gobsmacked when this first arrived in the post and I saw how small it was, in fact I think my first reaction was "£8 for this? You absolute jokers Bourjois." But I'll admit I was wrong; while it's overpriced without a doubt it's probably one of the nicest blushes I've ever used, plus you only need a small amount so it wont run out half as quickly as I first imagined. My favourite way to apply this is with Real Techniques contour brush which is a small domed fluffy brush. I usually apply cream blushes with their stippling brush, but in this case the contour brush is the ideal little tool for the job and distributes a nice even amount onto the cheeks without losing a load of product in the bristles. I love everything from the texture to the colour, I wear peach blushes throughout the year anyway but I can imagine this being the perfect 'summertime blush' for those usually wear pinks.

Bourjois Peach on the Beach Lip Crayon
This will ever be known as the lip product of summer 2013. You couldn't click on a blog or Instagram picture without someone wearing this, and it was popping up on wishlists all over the place. There are many things that are hyped up in the blogging world which turn out to be a complete waste of time and money, but this isn't one of them and I really do like it. It gives a nice wash of colour on the lips without making a massive statement and goes with any makeup look. This was great for boiling hot summer days when matte or heavy feeling lip products were out of the question (I'm sure you'll agree the last thing you need when you're already a bit dehydrated is a lipstick sucking the last bit of moisture out of your lips!) I bought this along with the shade Red Sunrise which has been neglected until now, but I have my eye on it for autumn and winter.

MUA Runaway Lip Crayon
This is a cheap and cheerful offering from MUA, I love this range of lip crayons I want every shade in the set! Again it was perfect for a bit of colour on hot days without feeling uncomfortable, and the colour is so summery and pretty. I relied on my lip crayons a lot over the hottest days; in fact all of my lipsticks must have watched on jealously for a good few weeks, as I hardly used them at all and constantly raided the lip crayon basket instead.

Fashionista Paris Bronzer and Butterscotch Blush
I originally bought this palette for my handbag or for a travel bag if I go away at any point, but it's so convenient I ended up using it almost every day. Paris is a tad warmer than my regular Hoola bronzer which I thought was great for summer, plus it's matte so is a contour and regular bronzer in one. Butterscotch doesn't look like much when it's swatched but is a lovely neutral shade that adds colour to the cheeks without looking too flushed. I tended to alternate between Butterscotch and Bourjois Nude Velvet depending if I had the extra time to apply a cream blush.

Urban Decay Chopper and Busted (Naked 2 Palette)
I use this palette pretty much daily regardless of season, but my summer look was a gold smokey eye using the shade Chopper with the dark brown Busted blended into the crease and below the lower lash line. As much as Half Baked seems like an obvious shade for a summery gold smokey eye, I find it can look a bit harsh and 'yellow gold' against my skintone. Chopper is much more flattering on me, but still gives that golden bronzey summery look. Now we're moving into autumn I've found myself going for grey and silvery shades like Pistol and Verve  a lot more, deepened up with Blackout- the ultimate black eyeshadow. You certainly can get your moneys worth from this palette and it's no wonder everyone loves it so much, even though they're all neutrals there's a massive variety of looks in here depending on what you're going for (unless you're after colour- in which case you're screwed).

Were any of these your summertime staple products too?
