Favourite Rimmel Products

Rimmel are a brand that can do little wrong in my eyes, I really love 'em. I've dabbled in their products from my very early teens and I still adore them now- and it's probably fair to say I've trialled a lot of products and brands over the years. When I first started buying and using makeup I'm almost certain that decent budget brands like we have today weren't about; I know that the likes of MUA, Fashionista and Sleek didn't grace the shelves of Superdrug until yearrrss later. This was back in the early 2000's, internet shopping was a long way off so making a cheeky Elf or eBay order was out of the equation too- those companies probably didn't even exist! (ok, now I feel old). I remember 'Constance Carroll' being sold cheaply in chemists but their products were horrible, as were Collection 2000 up until a few years ago. So for years Rimmel was my budget brand of choice, I know I had at least a few of their products in my limited makeup bag (although my tastes have somewhat changed since owning their 'Earth Star' lipstick, a metallic brown/nude shade- ughh). These days I  have plenty of Rimmel products in my stash; many of which I'll probably always repurchase, and a few that are up on a pedestal proudly boasting holy grail status. Here are a few of my most used and loved Rimmel products.

Stay Matte Powder
I can't imagine a time will come when this isn't part of my makeup routine. Mattifying yet light, doesn't go cakey and keeps any shine at bay- what more could you want in a pressed powder? The downsides are that the flimsy plastic casing looks cheap and doesn't stand up well being bashed around in your bag (the one I've photographed above is brand new and has just been sat in a drawer, and already the letters are fading. How??) They don't last very long either, I probably go through one of these every six weeks or so, which is annoying seeing as most powder products usually last for ages. I usually buy these three at a time when they're part of a three for two deal which saves having to keep running out and buying them.

Match Perfection Cream Foundation
I love the flawless, high coverage finish of cream foundation, this is a particularly nice one because it doesn't go on too thick or heavy onto the skin. I set this with Rimmel's Stay Matte Powder and it covers a multitude of sins so you don't even need a concealer, even if you're having a bad skin day/month/year/life. This covers my rosy cheeks in a flash and is my first port of call on spotty days.

Kate Moss/ Colour Show Off Lipsticks
Rimmel really do themselves proud when it comes to their lipsticks, while there are probably hundreds of different lines my two favourites are the Kate Moss and Colour Show Off lipsticks. Both are very similar; the formulation/texture and scent are almost identical and both apply and wear beautifully. Whereas the Kate Moss line caused a storm with its release, I'm pretty certain the Colour Show Off range was never released in the UK. You can however find them on Fragrance Direct for the bargainous price of £1.99 with the Kate lipsticks being around the £6 mark. Less expensive than lipsticks from similar brands and a lot nicer in my opinion!

Apocalips Lip Lacquers
I really thought I'd hate these when they were first released, after far too many 'lipgloss in hair' scenarios when I was younger I'm not big on sticky or glossy lip products any more. But these are so much more than a regular old lip gloss; I love the opacity, the fact they don't feel like you've PVA glued your lips together and the gorgeous colour range. The hollowed doe-foot applicator gives a nice even application too, I reach for shades Luna and Nude Eclipse a lot because they're just so easy to wear. While I own and love the bright pink shade Apocaliptic it does tend to get on my teeth easily- definitely one for days when there's regular access to a mirror!

Nail Polishes
I think Rimmel polishes are often overlooked for brands with prettier packaging, but while these look bog standard they're really lovely polishes. They're non-streaky, have a nice wide brush and hold up well to chips. Theres a huge colour selection, and they don't cost a small fortune like the majority of highstreet nail polishes these days.
