My Top Five Coral Nail Polishes

Sunday, March 30, 2014

You know you're a beauty fanatic when you can pull out ten or so very similar shades of nail polish out of your collection, don't you? But while they might be similar, they're certainly not identical- oh no! It's the slight difference in formula, shade and finish that makes all the difference. I love a good coral polish especially this time of year, it's a colour I automatically fancy having on my nails when the sun has got his hat on (can't say I ever really got that phrase mind you, surely if the sun put a hat on it would get darker not more sunny?!) It's prettier and more flattering than straight orange, and a bit different to more pastely springtime shades. I've managed to whittle it down to my top five:

George Gel Pro: Nectarine
Of the five, this is my favourite formula. I've seen mixed reviews for these polishes but I don't understand how some people can dislike them? Nectarine is perfectly opaque after one coat, glossy and gorgeous. These Gel Pro nail polishes are fairly new additions to George's extensive beauty collection; they're only a couple of pounds each and you can pick them up in Asda when you're doing the weekly shop. There's not a huge selection of shades at the moment, but I do really like this one and think it's perfect for the spring and summer.

Barry M: Peach Melba
My favourite shade of the bunch, Peach Melba is the most beautiful light peach. Sadly it does apply a bit streaky, but after two coats you're good to go. This is definitely one of my favourite Barry M polishes- this colour with the George Gel Pro or Gelly Hi Shine formula would be like my ideal spring nail polish.

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine: Papaya
This is one of Barry M's original Gelly Hi Shine shades, there have been more released this year which I still need to get my hands on. This is a very bright coral, not quite as harsh looking as orange but definitely one for when you're feeling like a vibrant manicure. The Gelly Hi Shines are all pretty opaque within one coat, I find they're a lot longer lasting than your average nail polish formula too.

Revlon Nail Enamel: Charismatic
This looks kind of streaky in the swatch, but I can assure you it's the fault of my sub par nail painting skills rather than the polish itself. Charismatic is a pearl finish, it contains fine shimmer for a slightly shiny finish without the full on look of glitter. Revlon's Nail Enamels sell for around £8 on the highstreet but you can pick up some of the shades for just £1.25 each on Fragrance Direct, so it's worth checking back every now and again to see if any colours you like the look of are in stock.

W7: Sunstone
W7 are known for their dupes of higher end brands (for example, I'm sure you've seen their Benefit Hoola dupe bronzer 'Honolulu' and their 'In the Buff' Naked palette dupe)- this looks a lot like an OPI polish at a glance which I'm pretty sure isn't an accident. But even so I do really like this polish, it's similar to Charismatic but slightly more vibrant and contains more sparkly bits. I've had this for a really long time and the formula is still fine, so definite browny points for that.

What's your favourite coral nail polish? Any recommendations?

  4. we're guilty when it comes to accumulating bottles of similar shades...let's just say we won't be needing to buy any more pink nail lacquers for a while (although we probably still will!!). We love corals and tangerines for summer. We've got two oplishes from W7 and can we say that they're honestly not spoken about enough. We love the formulation of them!! Great post and lovely pictures!

  10. Hmmm...I'm not a really coral nail polish, or coral-anything person, really! But, I do understand that this is a hot color right now. Lol. The nail polish shades you've posted are very beautiful, though. I think I just have an aversion to coral because of my skin tone. Chic and Alluring Blog
