NOTD: Polka Dots!

George limited edition Dotties nail polish: £3 from Asda

If I could sum up 'party nails' in one look, this little number would definitely be it. We're skimming right over autumn with this one and going straight for the festive season, the most wonderful time of the year is right round the corner after all. Sorry to any Christmas-phobes out there but this is happening, December is only six short weeks away (yay!) I'd of course wear these gorgeous polka dots nails all year round, but the party season is always a good excuse to do something different- especially if you're usually a bit more modest with your nail polish choices. Look at them, they're so cute!

I have to admit, as pretty as these look in the bottles they wouldn't necessarily have caught my eye if I'd have just been walking past. I'd have assumed they were regular chunky glitter top coats, but once you paint them onto your nails they're a great little surprise. Suspended in the clear base are pieces of matte hexagonal glitter which gives the spotty appearance, the 50's version also contains some regular shiny glitter too. The finish is somewhere between confetti and a party popper- so fun and just perfect for the upcoming festivites! Along with the 50's and 80's polishes which I have, as you can probably imagine there are 60's and 70's versions too all in same polka dot style. The 70's polish looks particularly nice, a lovely black a silver monochrome mix. I found that it's worth playing around with different base coats with these, the polka dots are quite bright and busy and so I think they look best on quite a light and muted base. I wasn't too keen on my first attempt layering them over red and dark blue, but think they look adorable over the pastel shades.

The only downside I found with these is that did take a slightly longer than your average polish to dry. It's more than likely because I layered them on too thick (rather than just be patient and do two thin layers) but being the fidget that I am it was a bit of a pain waiting for them to dry. However I'm more than happy to spend the extra few minutes on these because the effect is so cute, and next time I'll be sure not to blob so much on my nail in one go. These are limited edition, and so if you like the look of them grab them while they're still available in Asda.
