Subtle Spring Nails From Essie's Retro Revival Collection

Birthday Suit and Sequin Sash from Essie's Retro Revival collection: £7.99 each*

In celebration of their anniversary, Essie's legendary colour archive has been opened to give a glimpse of the brands dazzling history- the result being 'Retro Revival', a limited edition collection of six of their iconic shades. Essie have a seriously huge number of polishes in their range (with new ones being added all the time) and so giving some of the older shades some time in the limelight again just makes good sense. From brights to pastels to neutrals, this little set of six is a fantastic collection that pretty much covers all bases. Being a huge fan of a pretty, subtle manicure for spring two of the shades especially are very much my cup of tea- Birthday Suit and Sequin Sash.

Birthday Suit is exactly what you'd expect from the name; it's a sheer 'barely there' kind of polish that's perfect for adding a hint of colour, and making your nails look pretty and well manicured. If you're after full-on opacity then this probably wont be for you, it's deliberately sheer so you will see your natural nail underneath even after a few coats. If you already have nice nails and want to add a little something extra to them without completely covering them up, then you'll love this (very clean, nicely filed nails are a must with this one as it won't hide any of your nail sins!) It's very 'work appropriate' and I think would be a great choice for things like interviews or if you just want to keep your hands looking simple and fresh. Sequin Sash is a sheer peachy pink, which has a very fine silver shimmer running through. It can either be used as a top coat, or built up in a few layers on it's own as there is some colour in the base. I especially like this combination together, adding Sequin Sash over the top gives a bit more opacity to the nails, and overall is such a delicate and pretty combination.

With Essie's wide brush and excellent formulation these polishes really are a joy to use, at £7.99 they're not the cheapest but in my opinion purchasing from them is always money well spent. I know I'll get so much use from both of these!
