Incredible Upgrade Ideas For Your HomeFriday, February 19, 2016
Many of us dream of living in a truly beautiful home, but a space that looks incredible doesn't need to remain the stuff of dreams. You don’t even need to move house to get the style you're after, upgrading your own home can be the perfect way to get what you want. It can work out much cheaper than the cost of moving, and best of all you may be able to manage some of the work yourself.
Replace Doors and Windows
Upgrading your windows and doors is a big investment, but is so worth doing if yours are sub par. Not only will this save money on your energy bills, but will hugely improve the kerb appeal of your home. Doors are another great way to improve your home; a high quality front door will give your home added security as well as looking great- it's one of the first things people see when they come to your house! Stylish bifold doors at the back of your home will not only give you better access to your patio but will also give you an attractive view, you can view the doors and the hardware you need for this upgrade online. Internal doors are another great upgrade option; if your current ones are mismatched or past their best then replacing them with a high quality matching set will tie everything together. Good doors and windows will also add value to your property should you ever want to sell it.
Update Fixtures and FittingsOne thing that will always give a home a high end feel is good quality fixtures and fittings. These are things like taps, door handles and built in lighting. Even if you're not looking to update your entire kitchen, simply replacing the taps and replacing the overhead lighting can make all the difference. You could have a plumber fit you a heated towel rail in the bathroom, or add some strip lighting under your cupboards. An easy upgrade is to replace all of your plastic light switches and plug sockets with chrome ones, which will give your home a much more expensive feel. Adding a new air conditioning system would be a welcome fixture in any home; even with the UK's temperamental weather most of us spend a good few months during the summer complaining that it's too hot- especially at night. Units like this will also blow warm air into the rooms during the winter, and so you know you'll definitely get your money's worth.
Create Another Room or Usable SpaceLofts, garages, basements and cupboards can all be converted to create new usable spaces. This kind of upgrade can help you achieve the kind of lifestyle you crave: you could create a stylish ensuite or a walk in wardrobe, a studio to practice music or art or a conservatory for a new dining area. I posted about ideas to repurpose spaces in your home here if you're looking for more ideas. Adding a new and impressive room into what would have been wasted space is a great way to upgrade your home.
Don't Neglect Outside Space
Finally the kerb appeal of a property should also be high on your agenda of upgrades, have a think about the approach to your home. This is currently high on my 'to-do' list, since moving into my new home; I've been dying to freshen up the outside of the house but decorating inside is taking much longer than anticipated! Drives or pathways often look messy due to things like weeds and leaking car oil, they may need replacing if they're looking a bit tired. Rendering may need repairing and bricks may need repointing, even a fresh coat of paint can make a huge difference.
