Turning Your Retail Display into Sales

If you run a brick and mortar retail business and you’re looking to attract more customers through the door, start with your window display. That is, after all, the first thing that passersby will notice and if it looks appealing, they are much more likely to come in and perhaps make a purchase. How do you turn your retail display into sales? This case study highlights some great points, you can also try the following:

Change Your Displays Regularly
If you want to really ramp up your sales, then you’re going to have to get serious about your retail displays. I would suggest that you change them at least once a month, so that your customers, and other people passing by never know what to expect. It’s also a good way to ensure that you show off any new stock you’ve decided to start selling.

A Little Luxury Goes a Long Way
You might have more people coming in to buy the cheap socks and scarves, but putting them in your display isn’t likely to attract more people through the door. No, what you want to do is have your female mannequin draped in the finest silk scarves and expensive trinkets, for example - that’s what will entice people in. This applies whatever you’re selling - put the expensive stuff in the window.

Add Some Colour
If you want your shopfront to stand out from the rest, it’s never a good idea to create a display that’s monochromatic or features only drab colours. If you are going for a black and white look, perhaps because it’s popular, or because that’s what colour most of the products you want to sell are, at least add a flash of boldness to draw the eye. You want your window display to be fab, not drab.

Have Some Fun with It
Of course, one of the best ways to get people interested in your shop, and perhaps take the time to come inside is by having a little fun with your display. Placing something unexpected in there, or having your mannequins take on a whacky position will at the very least raise a smile and that will make people feel good when they think about your business - that’s great marketing.

Light It Up
A window that’s brimming with light is going to get much more notice than one that is dark and dull, so make sure that your display area is filled with light, particularly light from above, which will most flatter your display. On special occasions, add even more lights, like fairy lights, to ramp things up even more.

Hire Someone Creative
If you’re running a big business, then hiring a professional visual merchandiser will really help you to nail your window displays, but if you’re a small business and you can’t afford that, at least try to hire an employee or two who have some creative flair. They’ll love putting together really unique displays, using some of the above tips for you, and it should pay off financially.

If you do all of these things, then you can pretty much guarantee that the time, effort and money you put into your window displays will be worth it. It won’t be long before your tills are ringing like bells at Christmas!
