Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains: Review

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains: £7.99 at Superdrug and Boots

Welcome to my new lip product obsession! Despite the name being  a bit of a mouthful, I can't praise these 'jumbo style crayons' from Revlon enough. The pigmentation of a lipstick, the longevity of a stain, the sheen of a lip gloss and the smooth application of a balm- everything you could hope for in a lip product and more. They provide a decent amount of colour and it actually stays put; so unlike most other lip products there's no worry of the dreaded lipstick-on-teeth scenario occurring, or it bleeding from your lip line. In fact you need to do very little prep for these at all, they're fine without a lip liner and forgiving on the odd bit of dryness. These qualities make them great for everyday products that you can just throw in your bag and reapply throughout the day with no hassle whatsoever.

Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains vs Lip Butters
I recently wrote a post about how I wasn't impressed with the Revlon Lip Butters; although some might say these aren't too different, I think that they're a LOT better in a number of ways. One of the issues I had with the Lip Butters was that the soft consistency meant they were used up really quickly making them terrible value for money. Throw in short wear time and a lack of pigmentation on some of the shades and I felt as though for £8 I'd been a victim of daylight robbery right there in Superdrug. The Balm Stains have a firmer consistency, they deliver good pigmentation without using up a lot of product but are still smooth to apply without tugging the skin or using a lot of pressure. The stain aspect also means longevity is better, they're definitely more stain than balm although the balm stops the lips from drying out and leaves a nice glossy finish. The packaging is much more sturdy than the flimsy plastic Lip Butter lids, and I also prefer the retractable pencil nib which makes application quick and precise. Last of all the texture on the lips is better, although I wouldn't say they were hydrating the Balm Stains aren't sticky and are comfortable to wear- you hardly feel like you have anything on your lips at all. The Lip Butters don't hydrate either, but do leave stickiness which is something I dislike in lip products.

Pigmentation, Colour and Taste
There are twelve Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain shades in total, but sadly us UK peeps only have access to seven of them. Even so there's a good choice of shades with a red, berry purple, nude, coral and a few pinks; the colours are different enough that I'd happily buy them all. Like most lip products in this crayon format these have a slight minty taste to them- I reckon they could have done without it to be honest, but it's only mild so doesn't feel like you're putting toothpaste on your lips or anything extreme (eek!)

Final Verdict
I'm so impressed with these and can't wait to go out and buy more of them, the pigmentation is good but they're still really wearable; they're not sticky or uncomfortable and they're easy to reapply on the go. Basically they're everything I expected the Revlon Lip Butters to be. Great for those days when you want to look put-together, but without the time consuming prep and maintenance of traditional lipstick!
