Rimmel's Kate Moss Matte Collection: Shade 101

Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipsticks- £5.49 (link)

I realised at the beginning of autumn that I had a distinct lack of matte lipsticks in my life, and so naturally I've been lusting after this little collection by Kate for a while now. On a recent shopping trip I picked up shade 101- while there were some gorgeous plums and reds that were calling my name I decided this pretty dusky pink would be a nice everyday choice that I'd get plenty of use out of (although I'll definitely have to make a trip to pick up shade 107 at some point, it looks like an autumn/winter staple!)

The formulation of this lipstick really is gorgeous, velvety and extremely smooth to apply. While it's marketed as a 'matte' collection, the finish is definitely not fully matte- this gives it the benefit of being much easier to wear and less drying than true matte lip products. Shade 101 is a medium dusky pink, although I find that once it's applied it looks a bit lighter than you'd expect. As I'm the colour of an anaemic milk bottle it's not a problem for me, but something to consider if you have more of a tanned or medium skin tone. The one issue I have with this is that being such a light colour it shows up any dryness or flaws on the lips and so you do have to do a bit of prep beforehand, a once over with a Lush lip scrub and a bit of balm does the trick. I'd have thought being a more matte formulation it might have lasted a bit longer, but it seems to wear for around the same two or three hours that most of my lipsticks last for.

Overall I like this lipstick a lot, this particular colour isn't going to make much of a statement but is a nice choice for day to day or to wear with heavier eye makeup. I like that they're quite inexpensive compared with lipsticks from similar high street brands, and with good old Superdrug's three for two deals you always end up paying a bit less.
