Figs and Rouge 100% Natural Balm For Lips, Hands, Face and Body

I won this cute little balm tin by Figs and Rouge in a 'retweet and follow' type competition on Twitter a few weeks ago and was so excited for it. I've had this somewhere on the depths of my numerous page wishlist for a while, and so getting it as a freebie definitely put a smile on my face. Figs and Rouge are known for their natural cosmetics, and although I'm not too fussed about chemicals in makeup (I explain why here) I've always thought the brand sounded nice and wanted to give them a try.

The balm itself clear and waxy, it says on the back of the tin that it's petroleum free it but feels and acts almost identical to Vaseline. If I'd have been blind trialling this product I'd have been convinced that it was a regular old Vaseline lip balm. Don't get me wrong it does the job but I haven't noticed anything particularly spectacular- I don't think it works any better than my trusty Nivea Caramel Creme lip butter or any other similar lip balm tin. I think the main reason I'm not especially impressed with this is the smell/taste (or should that be lack of). I expected 'Coco Vanilla' to have the most amazing scent, it actually it smells like nothing at all. Maybe it's to be expected from a product that's not loaded up with artificial fragrances, but still I love a good scented lip balm and so the blandness was a bit disappointing to say the least.

According to Figs and Rouge you can also use these little tins for the hands, face and body, I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to use this as anything other than a lip balm. Maybe if I was out with desperately dry hands, I'd consider using it at a push if I didn't have a hand cream in my handbag (like that would ever happen, I'm the queen of the organised handbag!) But with the slippery texture I certainly wouldn't want to be smearing it all over my face, and a little tin like this wouldn't go very far if it was used as a body cream. I get the whole 'it's natural so isn't harmful can can be used anywhere' but in reality there are much better products out there for your face, hands and body. Maybe if you're really against using petroleum based lip products or if you're all into your natural products this will be just the thing for you, but for me I'm not hugely bowled over. It does the job and it comes in a cute tin but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to replace it when it runs out. At £5 it's on the slightly more expensive side of lip balm tins too, and personally if it's not going to work better than any other similar balm then I'd rather have one that smells nice.
