Stylish Wedding Guest Attire: Men's Edition

If you want to show off your style at a wedding the fact is there are a number of rules that we all need to adhere to. The men that attend a wedding tend to have it easier because they're not in direct competition with the bride, but it's important to remember that if the man in your life is attending a wedding, there are a number of things that you've got to remind them.

Dress According to the Occasion
Casual weddings don't mean the man in your life can turn up in jeans. It's about getting the dress code just right. Think about it from the bride and groom's perspective. If it was your wedding, you would want guests to make an effort, even though you are asking people to turn up in a casual manner. Depending on the venue of the ceremony and the reception, you may want to suggest that your man upgrade his look with men’s wedding cravats and potentially a top hat based on the occasion. However, this isn't essential. We always need to dress according to the occasion. No matter how casual the dress code is supposedly going to be, if you turn up looking like you are ready for a night on the town, you are going to stand out, and not in the right ways!

Don't Upstage the Groom
A wedding is a perfect opportunity to show off your fineries, however, upstaging the people that the focus is on is a big no-no. A stylish wedding guest is someone that knows the difference between being modest and overdoing it. The man in your life can benefit from some casual yet stylish implement. The semi-formal approach where you are not wearing a tuxedo, but opting for a suit and tie is a good idea, especially during the colder months. Having a tie and a pocket square can easily make the suit more formal.

Don’t Go for Black
Some people love the idea of being overly formal for a wedding, but the problem is that when you start to wear funeral colours it means you blend into the background and it can slightly put a dampener on the occasion. This is especially true during the summer. Guests need to bring a bit more colour. For the man in your life, wearing a double-breasted slim-fit suit strikes the right balance. Colours like blue or navy in combination with stylish Chelsea boots will easily get that balance just right. Why you can't spell funeral without “real fun” doesn’t apply here!

Some Great Accessories
For a man, the accessories are somewhat streamlined in comparison to a woman, but that doesn't mean he can't make a big impression in the right ways. The trick is to go for the right watch, tie, cufflinks, and pocket square. Bonus points for a lapel pin, which is a lovely little way to have a rose or flower adorned on them.
