Traditional braces
Traditional braces are the ones that most people think of when they consider orthodontics. They are made up of metal wires which run across the front of the teeth, and which are held in place using special brackets. These braces have been used for decades to produce excellent results that patients are usually very happy with. They can fix virtually any orthodontic issue and give patients the smile that they have always wanted. Though this type of brace was once the sole preserve of teenagers, they are now worn by patients of all ages. There is no longer any kind of social stigma attached, and it is commonplace to have this kind of treatment in later life.
Incognito braces
Incognito braces are similar to traditional ones in that they are composed of metal wires and brackets. They differ because instead of being fixed to the front of the teeth, they are positioned behind them. This means that they are very subtle, and it is difficult for others to spot that these braces are being worn. These braces may be ideal for the patient who wants the high efficiency and great results that come with traditional braces, but who wishes for a little discretion during their treatment.
Invisible braces
These are also often referred to by the trade name of Invisalign and are a popular choice with many patients who want to get straight teeth. They are completely clear trays (or aligners) that are worn over the teeth, making them ideal for people who are a little nervous about the idea of having orthodontic treatment. As well as being invisible, these braces are also removable. This means that there are no restrictions on what can be eaten during treatment, and the patient can continue to enjoy their favourite hobbies, such as contact sports. Invisible braces offer a lot of freedom as well as being the most subtle option.
Confidence
Many people who get their teeth straightened find that they feel much more confident about their appearance and in general once treatment is finished. They no longer feel the need to cover their mouth when talking, and often find that they smile much more frequently. This can help them to feel happier and to appear more approachable to others, both of which can lead to greater personal contentment.
Healthier
Straight teeth are much easier to keep clean. The person who has had braces is more likely to enjoy good oral health, which means that their teeth will look and feel good for longer. They are also more likely to experience better general health as a result of having healthy teeth and gums.
