Do you ever look at your child and feel utterly amazed that they’re real? That out of all the turns of time and chance, it brought them to you? This poem was inspired by professor Brian Cox’s reflection that we are all stardust, and the wonder of that thought
I watch you now, and all I see,
A little soul that’s wild and free.
Your eyes like skies of endless blue,
From cosmic depths, at last, came you.
From time and space emerged a spark,
Born from the eternal dark,
The stars that burned so long ago,
Collided, scattered, made you so.
Your tiny hands that played with stars,
Your feet that travelled realms afar
Your curl of hair, angelic face,
The universe in gentle grace .
First came me, and all I knew
Brighter still, and then came you.
And here you are, the vast made small,
The miracle that holds it all.
