Technically we’re aging every day- aging isn’t just about birthdays sneaking up on you, or bad genes from the family tree. When it comes to looking older, it’s sometimes the everyday stuff that’s speeding things along and causing those fine lines and wrinkles. It’s those little habits you don’t even think twice about, but one day you catch yourself in the mirror and go, “Wait… when did that line get there?” Yeah, it’s not exactly fair, but that's the reality. Once you spot what’s doing the damage, you can fix it without living off kale smoothies or spending your life savings on fancy creams. Honestly, it’s about catching those “culprits” before they leave their stamp all over your face. But what’s usually the cause?
Not Drinking Enough Water
Yes, it’s the most obvious, but everyone out there seems to be guilty of this one. Your skin’s basically a tattletale when you’re dehydrated. Basically, if you forget your eight glasses it’ll show up as dullness, dryness, and fine lines that look way deeper than they really are. Slathering moisturiser on parched skin is like painting over a crumbling wall. Ideally, just go ahead and keep a water bottle close, and your face will thank you. Sure, it’s boring, but it doesn’t matter because it’s actually effective.
Bad Sleep
Again, it’s obvious, but it’s just way too common and needs to be stated. Skipping sleep is an open invitation for dark circles, puffy eyes, and skin that looks like it’s been through the wringer. But this is, of course, one of those things most people usually already knew about. So, what can you do to get better sleep? Usually, it’s as simple as a bedtime routine, one that doesn’t involve screens, one that makes you truly feel calm. It’s easier said than done, but it’s really about self control.
Living on Screens
Between using phones, laptops, Netflix marathons and work, and all seems fine until your neck starts hurting and your face is covered in squint lines. Nowadays, screens are just heavily pushed on us, but those hours of staring at screens leave your eyes strained, and constant squinting just fast tracks those crow’s feet. While sure, you could just cut off screens entirely, technically, it wouldn’t be any different if you were reading, or driving or doing other day tom day tasks. Which is exactly why it might be a good idea to look into varifocals, because flipping between reading glasses and distance glasses is just asking for wrinkles. So one pair that sorts both, and suddenly you’re not scrunching your face every five minutes.
Stressing Over Everything
Stress might be invisible, but the evidence shows up right on your face. Well, there’s the frown lines, headaches, sleepless nights, and skin that looks like it’s given up. But on top of that, stress hormones mess with everything, from your glow to your patience. Which is exactly why finding even small ways to chill out can stop stress from stealing years off your face.
