Things To Consider When Buying Bridesmaids Dresses

You thought finding your own gown was tricky, but shopping for bridesmaids dresses can throw up even more issues. Not only do you have to like it, but so does all of the girls who are going to be wearing it! With so many different opinions flying around it can seem like an overwhelming task. But if you work together and are prepared to be flexible, you're sure to find something perfect. Here are a few things to consider.

The Colour
The colour of your bridesmaids dresses will need to tie in with your wedding colours. If you have two accent shades you could go with either colour or a combination of the two. You could even use the colours to show who the maid of honour is. For example if your wedding colours are grey and blush pink you could choose blush dresses with a grey sash for the bridesmaids. Then a grey dress with a blush sash for the maid of honour. Alternatively the maid of honour could wear one of your wedding colours entirely and the rest of the bridesmaids could wear the other. If you're going to go down this route, making sure all of the dresses are the same style will keep everything cohesive. And prevent it from looking like you have one odd bridesmaid.

The Fit
The issue with buying bridesmaids dresses is that you're buying one kind of  dress to suit the figures of different girls. This can be a problem because what looks great on one might be very unflattering on another. If your bridesmaids are very different shapes and sizes, your best bet would be to choose a style that's universally flattering. For example, a fitted sweetheart bust with a flowing skirt will look lovely on just about anyone. These are lots of options to choose from, even with this style- look at the three below from Bridesmaid Design. Speak with your maids and make sure they're comfortable in the gown. It's your big day so you shouldn't be ruled by others opinions, but you should take comments on board. The last thing you want is for your friends to feel very self conscious on your big day.

The Materials
The final thing to consider with your bridesmaids dresses is how they will look alongside yours. For example, if your dress is lacy you could choose bridesmaids dresses with lace accents. It could be on  the bust, on the waist or even as a lace sash. This could be purchased separately if you can't find exactly what you're after in one dress. If you've gone for a light, airy and flowing wedding gown, choose a similar light material for the bridesmaids as opposed to something heavier like satin. This will complement your dress. and keep everything nicely tied together.
