New Nail Polishes by Asda's George Cosmetics

I'm a huge fan of George cosmetics, I reviewed a load of their makeup last year (which seems like a lifetime ago now- does anyone else feel like 2012 is a distant memory?) and completely fell in love with the brand. So many of their products are comparable to higher end brands, and back when I didn't have a whole load of makeup I loved trying out the highstreet versions of more expensive products. I still use lots of beauty products from George to this day, and they're definitely my budget brand of choice. If you find yourself wondering the beauty aisles of Asda when you're doing the weekly shop (guilty as charged) you might have noticed there are a couple of new nail products available, namely their 'Gel Pro' and 'Denim Effect' lines. Both are said to be long wearing which is perfect for all of you weekend festival go-ers (which is not me this year sadly- booo). But we all love a long lasting nail colour either way, and so I was really excited to try these out!

Gel Pro*
Being a huge fan of the Barry M Gelly Hi Shine nail paints I was eager to see how these would compare. The formulation is much like you'd expect from a gel-effect nail polish: thick, smooth and opaque in one coat. It's the finish of these that I love though, I expected a very glossy shine to the nails once they were dry but the finish was quite different. I don't want to say they dry matte, but are different from the super glossy finish of most polishes. I've shown them above next to Barry M shades that I thought looked similar, but as you can see the finish is completely unique. My only gripe is that the brush could be wider and slightly longer, but other than that I love everything about these. They dry quickly, last for a good few days on the nails without chipping and don't cost the earth- I'll definitely be popping more of these into my basket next time I'm in Asda. There are eight shades available in this range from darks to pastels and brights.

Denim Effect*
The denim effect bottle looked nothing like this when it first arrived; I'm not sure whether it was my fault or just a bit of a design flaw, but I unscrewed the cap while my hands were still a bit sticky from the nail varnish remover pads I'd just used. It removed some of the cute denim effect design on the lid, being a lover of pretty packaging this was quite a traumatic moment (sob) but rather than photograph it with a messed up lid I decided to remove the rest with nail varnish remover. Packaging aside, I absolutely LOVE the product itself, I was curious to see how a denim effect would work and I think George have done a great job recreating it. When you first paint your nails with this polish it looks like a pretty sparkly blue, but as with the Gel shades above it dries down to almost a matte effect which I think looks amazing. I'm seeing this polish crop up quite a bit on blogs at the moment, it's seems to be a well loved product among beauty bloggers!
