Mac Mineralised Skinfinish in Lightscapade: £22 Available Here
I absolutely love buying highlighters, they're pretty, sparkly and fun- just about everything I love. The only problem is nine times out of ten I really don't like how they look on my face, and despite my love affair with glitter I'm one of these boring people that prefers a matte finish on the skin. The dewy look just doesn't work for me- where highlighters give most people a nice glowy finish I find they either make me look greasy or like a pre-teen dabbling in a pot of glitter before the school disco (I was definitely guilty of this- but thankfully my makeup tastes have moved on a bit since then!) Lightscapade however is a an exception, and is one of the rare highlighters I've come across that's not too gold or metallic and doesn't leave chunky bits of glitter on your face. Great for pale skin or anyone over the age of sixteen that appreciates a bit more subtlety in their makeup!
Lightscapade is described by Mac as a 'soft, candlelit beige.' It has gorgeous blue veining runing through, I'm not sure what effect this has on the overall finish but hey it looks pretty in the pan so I'm not complaining. As with all Mac mineralised skinfinishes it has a domed surface, and contains a colossal 10g of product. With it being a highlighter you only need to use a small amount, I really cant ever see this running out (I've already had it since Christmas and am not even close to making a dent in it, talk about never ending product). I'm intrigued to know how long it takes the average person to finish one of these, if you've ever used one up let me know how long it took you! I usually apply highlighter with a Real Techniques tiny little setting brush to accurately place it rather than get it all down my face, but with Lightscapade the finish is sheer and natural looking so it works well on a big fluffy powder brush lightly applied across the cheekbones. It brightens up the face with very little effort, and there's no worry of walking out of the house like a disco ball on legs.
Apologies for the rubbish swatch, it's far too difficult to show what this looks like without seeing it in person; it's the sort of thing that subtly catches the light when you turn to the side, so photos don't do it much justice. In my defence I ran around my flat for almost an hour taking pictures in front of different windows to try and show what it looks like on the skin, but all I managed to achieve was filling up my camera with about a hundred weird selfies- none of which actually show it properly. A few reviews I've read suggest this shade is a bit too ashy/ chalky for darker skintones, but if you're pale and find that most highlighters lean too gold against your skin this is the perfect one to try.

Beautiful! I love MAC's Soft & Gentle (how original, I know!) and Dior Amber Diamond. Dior is a little more subtle for everyday use.. I prefer MAC when I really want to be glowing! :)
ReplyDeleteI barely ever use a highlighter, but that one looks gorgeous :)I love my matte finish, but maybe if one day I decide to add some shine to my face, than I will definitely try that one out :)
ReplyDeleteI love the look of this highlight!! its such a gorgeous shade and would definitely suit my paler than pale skin x

I bought a mineralize skinfinish natural about two years ago and I'm only about half way through it and I use it everyday. They're expensive but so worth the money for quality and how long they take to get through!!
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing. Just amazing. Have to have it! :)

This definitely wouldn't suit my skintone, haha. I've never actually tried any MAC products other than two lipsticks and an eyeshadow, lol!
