How to Accessorise on Your Wedding Day

Whether you’ve chosen a classic, vintage or modern dress, often the expectation is once you’ve found the gown, the rest of your wedding outfit will fall into place. However, if you’re one of those indecisive brides, you may need help finishing off your wedding look. Here are some tips for accessorising, so you can get the style you’ve always wanted.

Find the right veil
The style of veil that you choose can completely change the look of your entire wedding ensemble. A simple dress can be given vintage appeal by adding a birdcage veil, while a veil trimmed with lace can instantly make your entire outfit softer and more romantic. It’s worth reading up on the different types of veil and looking for style inspiration online. In general, the longer the veil, the more formal the occasion, and the longest cathedral veil is perfect for a grand entrance.

Top it off with a headpiece
A headpiece such as a flower crown or tiara isn’t essential, but it can be a good way to achieve the look you want. For example, if you want a bohemian style, then flowers can help adorn this look, and bling-loving brides may want a sparkly tiara on top of their up-do.

Keep jewellery simple
Big jewellery pieces risk clashing with the gown and making it too much for the eye to take in. Only choose cocktail rings, cuffs or statement necklaces if your gown is simple and elegant. If your gown is lace, embellished or has a lot of tulle, keep the jewellery classic. Something like an F jewellery chain bracelet will look lovely in photos. Some brides opt for a locket with family photos around their neck. Use gemstones sparingly, especially if you’ve already gone for the aforementioned tiara. Pearls are a more classic choice than shiny stones.

Get a pouch for a few essentials
Nobody wants to carry around a huge handbag on their wedding day. Keep your bag in your hotel room. A small clutch or bridal bag is quite handy for make-up touch-ups, and perhaps your phone, but hand it to your maid of honour before you walk down the aisle. As with anything bridal, there are sparkly, over-the-top options in bridal handbags, but these can easily clash with your beautiful dress.

Wear shoes you can walk in
There’s a huge range of beautiful shoes for brides around, but the problem is, many of them have stiletto heels. Unless you’re used to tottering around in heels, you’re likely to be in pain after 10 minutes, so find a heel at a height you can handle. If you’re wearing a long dress, there’s nothing to say you can’t wear flats underneath. Is it really worth being uncomfortable all day, just to gain a couple of inches? Go for flats and you can dance the night away.

Your wedding will be a day to remember for the rest of your life. The right accessories will make sure remember it for the right reasons!
