Having a Hard Time Training Your French Bulldog? Not Anymore!

It is said that “sometimes the smallest things take up the biggest space in your heart,” perfectly apt for French bulldogs. They come into your world with quirky personalities and roll around, chattering all over the floor, keeping their live-in companions entertained after a long and tiring day at work. But don’t let that ear to ear smile fool you. After you bring that comical pet into your home, soon enough, you’ll get to know that your Frenchie needs the training to keep them as friendly and easygoing as you want. If you have no idea how to train your little bundle of joy, we’ve brought some useful tips for first time Frenchie owners. Let’s jump right in!

Encourage your Frenchie to socialize and bring out its friendly nature.
With unique looks, personality, and mannerisms, it is hard not to fall in love with a Frenchie. Since they are the friendliest of all the dog breeds, they don’t have a hard time socializing. But they could be highly obsessed and protective of their owners and won’t allow any human or other pet anywhere near. However, it is suggested to walk your pup in a public place where it can meet and greet other people and dogs. It will help your dog to feel comfortable and happy amongst other pets and humans. Allow it to sniff other people (with permission, of course). Start with a short leash to have complete control over your jumpy little fellow.

Potty train, if you don’t want accidents on the floor.
Any dog owners should know that it is very important to start potty training your dog as soon as you bring it home. These pups pee a lot, so make sure that you are well equipped with washable pee pads. The best way to teach your French bulldog to relieve is to take it outside every hour (if you can) and associate peeing and pooping with the same place. Use cues like “go potty,” and eventually, they’ll learn to do their business as soon as you say it. In fact, experts recommend that you must praise your dog or give them treats when they go potty outside. Gradually you can drop the treats and only praise words like “good dog” or “good job” after they are done. To know better, refer to a french bulldog training guide for easy tips and tricks. The time you spend potty training will definitely be worth the effort.

Exercise routine to cope with energy levels.
Frenchies are not couch potatoes. With round bodies and meaty rolls, they are generally considered lazy dogs. They are jumpy and full of life and energy. They love to run and chase. If their energy levels are not channeled properly, they could get irritated and run around your house tearing off pillows and following you all over. Play “fetch and chase” with your dog to keep the energy levels in check, and you’ll notice that working out has never been this fun. Give chew toys or other treats after your dog is done exercising.

And it doesn’t stop here!
Your French bulldog is a perfect blend of stubbornness and comedy. One time it’ll be all over you, showering love and making you laugh, and the rest of the time, it would just lie on the floor calmly. You won’t need many tools to train your fur baby, but remember to avoid long training sessions. You wouldn’t want your Frenchie to get overwhelmed and overheated quickly. Every dog learns at their own pace, so it is best to be patient and persistent during the training. Getting a pet is always exciting, but training a French Bulldog will make you feel much more alive and energetic.
