Yes, You Really Can Love Your Work!

Most people have the opinion that whatever your job may be, you’ll grow to dislike it, and even hate it at some point. Others may be luckier - perhaps they’ll just become a little bored, or complacent. Work takes up a huge portion of our lives (38 hours per week on average), so accepting anything less than loving your work is pretty sad. Do you want to spend a big percentage of your life hating what you’re doing? Doing something that doesn’t align with your core values and passions? You only get one life! You really can love your work, no matter how impossible that seems to you right now. If this is something you want to do, read on.

Keep Your ‘Why’ In Mind
You’re never going to love your work or find it meaningful if you don’t keep your ‘why’ in mind. You need to know why you’re doing something every day. Forget your why, and things will start to feel like a huge chore. Are you doing this to help you land a job in a different department in the future? Do you want to progress up the ladder eventually? Have a compelling why.

Invest In Your Skills
Investing in your skills will keep them fresh and keep you employable. Doing this outside of work time will make you a more productive employee, and you should have more opportunities. However, even if there are no benefits to this in your current job, you can make yourself more employable for another role.

Do Something You’ve Always Wanted To Do 
If you’re at a crossroads, it can be tempting to do something because you know the money’s good, or for a reason that doesn’t really align with you and your values. Instead, do something you’ve always wanted to do. For example, you could look at hr apprenticeships with if you’ve wondered about a career in HR. Taking on a an apprenticeship will give you an idea of whether this industry is for you, too.

Define What You’d Like To Improve In Your Role/Workplace
You can’t improve on things if you don’t define them first, so define what you’d like to improve on in your role or your workplace. What can you do to take steps to improving these things today? Can you speak to others about it? Get to work!

Ask For Support
If you need support, don’t be afraid to ask for it. You may feel like a failure or that you aren't capable of doing your role, but everybody needs support from time to time. 

Stay Present As You Work 
You’re not going to feel happy or satisfied if all you do at work is mindlessly scroll for 8 hours. Stay away from Facebook and other social media platforms - even stay away from your emails. Get down to the real work and stay present. Getting things done always feels better than procrastinating.  Set yourself short time blocks to work in if you feel this will help you. 

Give Your Workspace A Makeover
Make your personal workspace nicer to work in. Add plants, pictures, printed folders and anything else that will make you feel at home. Keep clutter at bay, too!
