Simple Ways to Spruce Up Your Workspace!

Are you a blogger or freelancer? Do you run a business from home, or just have a hobby that means you're sat at your desk on a regular basis? If so, a decent workspace is essential, not only is it more pleasant to spend time in but it can also help you to be more productive. Maybe you don't have the time or inclination to rip everything out and start again, or perhaps it doesn't need such drastic changes. If you just want to spruce things up without a huge amount of hassle or cost, here are a few simple ways to go about it.

Declutter
Any space in your home will look better when it's clean, tidy and organised. It's so easy for your desk to get messy, when you're working hard and on a role, you can find yourself grabbing the things you need and then getting right back to work. However, it's so important to regularly tidy and declutter your workspace. Get rid of things like dirty coffee mugs, papers you don't need and plates or papers from snacks. Purchase a desk tidy, pots and/ or drawer dividers to keep everything organised and put everything away into them at the end of each day. Give the desk a wipe, and clean and neaten up anything on the top. Without doing any kind of decorating, this will instantly make it look better and will make your work environment a lot nicer for you as well.

Add plants
Plants add colour and texture, this is particularly useful if your office is very neutral. Plants are unfussy but bring personality and interest without taking away from a calm and serene space. Research has shown that plants actually boost productivity levels and can improve mood making them ideal to decorate any kind of workplace with. You could line up some cacti on a shelf, make a terrarium with some succulents, add a potted plant to your desk or add a larger yucca or fern to a corner of the room.

Frame a meaningful quote
Have you ever read a quote that really resonated with you, motivated you or caused you to think in a different way? If so, why not have it framed and hang it on your wall over your desk? There are lots of talented designers on sites like Etsy who can turn a quote into a beautiful piece of artwork, or if you're a dab hand at graphic design or Photoshop, have a go yourself. It's a simple way to decorate but can motivate you and give you a nudge in the right direction when you read it.

Find cute stationery
One thing most of us loved about 'back to school' as a child was buying new stationery. There's something so satisfying about cute new notebooks, lovely new pens and pencils and attractive printed document folders. Why not harness some of that motivation as an adult and treat yourself to some new bits and pieces? You could go with items that you love the look of, or find pieces that work with the theme of your office. Either way, having nice new stationery and equipment can make running your home business more practical, as well as making your workspace look pretty.
