Bored of Feeling Like a Bore? It's Time to Make a Change!

Here's a question that most of us would really rather not ask ourselves: 'Am I a boring person?' It's the kind of question that most of us will find ourselves thinking about late at night when we'd much prefer to be falling asleep. If you've had this on your mind, know that you're not alone. A lot of people end up in a position where they really do wish that they were a more dynamic an interesting person than the way that they feel on a daily basis; this has only really been compounded by the existence of things like Facebook and Twitter and all the other social media platforms. We essentially see the 'highlight reel' of those around us, making it easy to assume that their lives are wonderful and ours in comparison are incredibly inferior. While this is almost always never the case, getting out there and doing interesting things is never going to be a bad thing. The more you do and the more experiences you have, the more you have to talk about. The more stories and anecdotes you have to tell, and the more interesting you are in general. There's nothing worse than having a conversation and you're asked 'so what have you been up to?' and you've not been up to much at all. Make a change today, here are a few things you can do.

Keep learning
One of the reasons you might be feeling like you don't have as much to bring to the table as those around us, is that we've stopped learning. Education isn't something you just do at school or in university, we should all be continuing to learn throughout our lives. It could be casual learning such as reading news sites to keep up with current events, listening to podcasts or teaching ourselves new skills from tutorials. Or it could be formal, academic study. Could you go to university and get your degree, or if you already have one then do a masters? If you want something with more flexibility, you can get professional diplomas and certification in just about any subject these days. I'm in the process of building up my skills and am undertaking a couple of different courses, and I have to say I'm loving doing them. Education as an adult is nice, there's less pressure and as you've chosen to do it it's more enjoyable. Becoming more knowledgeable on a subject is great for your career, and makes you more compelling to speak to as well.

Travel
Travel opens you up to a world of new experiences. You'll get to see and do things that you simply never would have if you'd stayed at home. From incredible animals in their natural habitat to stunning scenery, you'll get to observe some of the wonders of the world and meet people so interesting they'll blow your mind. Travel gives you plenty to speak about, lots of interesting stories to tell and is great for your overall wellbeing. Lots of people are held back from travelling due to money, but my advice is find a way to make it work. The best adventures will probably come from backpacking across remote areas compared with kicking it in a five star hotel! You can always earn more money but you won't always have the time you have now, make it your goal to travel more if you can.

Express yourself
One of the most important things to ask yourself is whether or not you're actually a boring person or simply that you're working too hard to fit into the boxes assigned to you by society at large. Many of us spend our lives just trying to fit in, but when you fit in then you also blend into the background. Instead of doing that, why not think about the things that you can do to express the things that are unique about you? Why not try and express yourself creatively through things like art, music, or writing? That way you'll find a new way to stand out and you might even get a new hobby out of it too. Or why not express yourself through how you present yourself to the world? Your clothes or your hair can be a great way to stand out from the crowd and let the world know who you really are.

It really is important to remember that the image that you see of other people on social media, and in general, can often be pretty dishonest. Sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram encourage us to present the absolute best versions of ourselves and not the parts of our lives that might not be quite so appealing. If you want to become a more interesting person, then that's great, just make sure that it's something that you're doing for yourself and not because you're trying to 'keep up with the Jones's'. If you do that, you're never going to be happy no matter what you do because you'll always end up feeling like you aren't good enough.
