Daily Plumbing 

1. The most common scenario in plumbing is a clogged drain. If this happens, you'll need to get help with your drainage systems. But to avoid that in the first place, one of the precautionary steps is using a filter or strainer so it can catch small particles. Another reminder is to avoid pouring all kinds of fats, oils, and grease in the drain. Greasy substances can congeal in the drain, which can cause the drain to clog. Take note that it can be expensive to repair a clogged drain outside the house. 

2. Use the garbage disposal properly. The water should be on before you run the disposal. It should also be on for at least 15 seconds after running it. This helps the debris to go to the main line. Aside from that, there are food items to avoid. Celery and banana peels should not be put in the garbage disposal because they are difficult to process. The same goes for cucumber and potato peels. 

3. When using the bathroom, avoid bath oils. Chemical clog removal products should also be avoided. Only human waste and toilet paper should be flushed down the toilet. Put the diapers, tampons, and other garbage in designated bins. 

Additional Maintenance 

4. A leak is a no-no for any plumbing system. It can cause all sorts of trouble. Check for leaks and have them repaired as soon as possible by a plumber in North Metro (or wherever it is that you live). 

5. Look for signs like mold, water puddle, and mildew smell to know if there is a leak. You can also check the pipe valves and faucet handles. The pipe fittings, shower heads, and toilet flappers are common spots to check for leaks. 

6. Aside from leaks, you should check if the drainage is smooth. If there are signs of bubbles in the sink, chances are your drain is slowing down. Take this chance to check and have it repaired or do the repair yourself. 

Other Maintenance Procedures 

7. The cold season can cause trouble for every home’s plumbing system. Some of the things you can do draining the water lines, checking for leaks on your outdoor spigots, disconnecting the hoses from the outdoor spigots, and wrapping a heat tape on uninsulated plumbing pipes. The water heater should be maintained and prepared for the cold season. It should be put at 120 degrees Fahrenheit. 

Lastly, don’t neglect your plumbing system. Don’t take it for granted and don’t put off its maintenance. It should be working optimally because it is a system in your house that you need to use every day. Check for problems early on so they will not turn into a big mess, which will cost you even more.
