Is Your Bedroom Decor Disrupting Your Nightly Sleep?

Do you spend every night tossing and turning? If you’re not stressed or don’t have any obvious reasons for disrupted nightly sleep, your bedroom decor could be the culprit! Your bedroom could be the most stylish corner in your house, but chicness doesn’t necessarily equate to relaxation. A bedroom is a space where you should be able to destress after a long day. Is your bedroom creating the right atmosphere for you to relax and unwind? Let’s take a look at some additions and changes that you can make to get your bedroom perfectly peaceful.

Stay away from garish colour palettes
There’s no doubt that a bold colour palette is an easy way to make a statement. But it does the exact opposite for your peace of mind. When trying to fall asleep, you don’t want to feel like you’re enclosed in a jarring dungeon! Give your eyes a break and go for a cool-toned neutral palette. Soft and muted shades promote rest and relaxation. There is no harm in mixing it up with pops of vibrant hues, but keep it to a minimum.

Invest in quality mattress, headboard & bedding
It’s no exaggeration to say that a high-quality mattress can transform your life. A good mattress isn’t inexpensive, but you can’t risk negatively impacting your sleeping pattern and posture with a cheap mattress. You’re going to use it every day for a long period of time. So spare no expense in getting the right mattress. You can add some character to your room with an expressive headboard. Just like a mattress, a headboard is a bed component you’ll constantly come in contact with. Declutter
The things that surround you can consciously and subconsciously affect your brain. So if your bedroom is messy, that will make you feel uneasy. Store away all unnecessary items in closed storage. Make sure you have space to move around by sorting clutter of paper, laundry, shoes and other random stuff.

Install blackout curtains
Unwanted light in the middle of the night from things like street lights and traffic can disturb your sleep. Blackout curtains or blinds are an excellent solution to keep your room peacefully dark for nights.

Get a white noise machine
Are you tired of your noisy neighbours? Or do you live on a busy street that never sleeps? Do yourself a kindness and get a white noise machine to help you sleep through the night. Alternatively you can use a fan to create a white noise type effect while keeping the room nice and cool as well.

Play with textures
Adding a variety of texture to your bedroom will make it cosier. Place fluffy blankets and soft rugs to make it ultra sumptuous. Add nice swag curtains to the windows and plenty of throw pillows on your bed, it's a great way to incorporate a little colour into a neutral colour palette too.

Keep it simple
Save your eclectic decor fantasies for your living room. When it comes to bedroom decor, minimalism is the way to go. Only furnish the room with essential items. Yes, that four-foot-tall modern sculpture is incredibly cool, but it doesn’t belong in your bedroom.

Allow proper ventilation
Open a window for some time every day to ensure the room has proper ventilation. Fresh air makes a huge difference! Aim to open your window for thirty minutes a day, indoor air can be quite toxic so airing your home is important for your health.

Make it a no-work zone
If you have a tendency to work on your bed, eventually your mind will associate it with work and not sleep. If you work from home then assign a separate area in your house or room for work. Working on a bed blurs the line between productivity and rest.

Ban television and other electronics
A television in the bedroom sounds convenient but is it actually good for you? The answer is no. Remove electronics from your bedroom to rest your mind before you go to bed. Read a book instead.

Add some greenery
The colour green is often associated with rejuvenation. With some plants and flowers (real or fake), your bedroom will instantly gain a refreshing touch. Trailing plants are very on trend at the moment and look great on shelves and windowsills.

Aromas
An aroma is a powerful tool that can lull you into a deep sleep. Place a lavender diffuser in your room or use a pillow spray before going to bed. You can use scented candles, reed diffusers, pot pourri and other scented items in the room to give it a gorgeous fragrance.

A good night’s sleep is non-negotiable. Hopefully, these tips will help you improve your sleeping pattern.
