Moving House While Pregnant- And Trying to Avoid Stress!

Moving is hard enough already, but when you're pregnant it can add a whole load of extra stress. There's so much to do during a time in your life when you really have no energy to spare, and since you shouldnt really be moving things yourself, a lot of it ends up out of your control. While moving pregnant is likely preferable to moving house with a newborn, it's not exactly ideal either! However there are some things you can do to make it easier.

Do what you can- safely
According to the CDC, prolonged standing or heavy lifting can cause an increased chance of miscarriage or premature birth which is of course, really scary stuff. Pregnant women are at higher risk of an injury while lifting due to differences in posture, balance, and an inability to hold things close to the body. This means that no matter what, you absolutely shouldn't be lifting things when you're having a baby, even when you're moving house as it puts your unborn baby at risk. Look for companies that offer packing services as well as moving as that way it's less for you to deal with. Start by searching those in your area, eg, local Sydney removalist, and then check out reviews. Cleaning the house once you're moved is another big job and while there are things you can safely do when you're pregnant, just be careful. Avoid breathing in chemicals like oven cleaner and bleach, wear gloves when you're cleaning and open the doors and windows so that the room you're in is well ventilated.

Rope in as much help as possible
If you're in a position where you have loved ones that can help you move, it's definitely worth asking. If you don't, find a reliable moving company like M25 Movers London and pay to utilise their services instead. At least you know that everything will physically get done, and since a professional moving company is insured you have peace of mind too.

Have your pets and kids looked after elsewhere
Moving day can be stressful for pets, there are lots of people in and out, noise and they're likely confined to one room. Then there's the worry of them possibly escaping- basically if you can book kennels or have them looked after someone else for the day then it's well worth doing that for all of your sanity. The same with kids too, moving to a new home is already hard on them so having kids that you already have away for the day while everything is being sorted is a wise move.

Try not to rush the process
Moving day itself is always going to be a rush. This was a more difficult house move for us because we were in the middle of a chain, it meant having to wait until the buyers funds were released before we could go and drop off our keys, and then wait for our money to reach the sellers account before the keys to our new house were released. This lead to a lot of uncertainty on the day, rushing around followed by an hour of waiting in the rain as the estate agent went on lunch while they were waiting for our funds! However, once that side of things is done, take your time with everything else. Try and get cleaned, unpacked, decorated and finished within a weekend and you'll cause yourself a lot of stress.
