How To Focus on What You Want as a Mum

When you become a mum, your focus shifts to raising your children- they become the centre of your world. However, it's still important to think of yourself too; as the saying goes 'you can't pour from an empty cup.' Making sure your basic needs are met is crucial, if you can’t remember the last time you did anything for yourself then here are some suggestions as to what you can do to change this.

Pursue a Hobby You Enjoy
There is bound to be a hobby that you particularly enjoy but haven't been able to do much of recently. It could be a creative task such as painting or drawing or perhaps playing an instrument. Whatever it is, make time in your schedule to reacquaint yourself with your favourite hobby. It will be a great way to relax, de-stress and take your mind off everything for a short while.

Give Yourself a Pamper Session
if you find thirty minutes to yourself at some point, how about giving yourself a nice facial and have a relaxing bath. Using your favourite skincare products will enable you to look after your skin but also act as a great relaxing exercise to help you feel less stressed. You could paint your nails, use a hair mask or wax your legs. These small jobs will make you feel more put together when you get ready in the morning and could give your self confidence a boost too.

Find a Flexible Job
If your current job is not really working well with your schedule, instead of feeling really run down and stressed about having to ask your boss to be able to go and pick up your children then why not look for something a bit more flexible. You could look online for part time jobs for mums which would enable you to find something that is more adept at fitting into your current schedule. It will also enable you to find a job that you will enjoy spending time on as opposed to that general feeling of ‘I hate my job’ each morning as you go to work.

Get a Qualification
If there's a course or qualification that you'd love to do that you have not had the opportunity to pursue then why not enrol yourself onto a course. It could be an online course which you could do from the comfort of home or attend classes at a convenient time in your schedule. Obtaining a qualification will give you a much needed boost and provide you with an enormous sense of satisfaction and achievement.

Overall it is important to remember that you matter as well. Of course you will want to put your children ahead of you as a priority, but if you don't take care of yourself then you can end up feeling run down and stressed. So make time in your schedule for you. You will feel better for it and certainly deserve it when you are a mum.
