How To Do London On A Budget

Not everyone loves London - but for those who do, London prices are something that comes up often. It can feel like nothing. There is a fair price. On the bright side, the city is so big that many people only head to a select few places (which pushes up the prices further). But if you grab yourself a travel card and are prepared to push your way onto the underground, London is your oyster. But what can you do for a few quid rather than a few hundred?

PT No Taxi
There is nothing worse than getting stuck in traffic in a black cab. And while the public transport might take a minute to master - the drivers on buses are usually friendly enough to let you know when you need to get off for certain venues. Although some places are faster to walk to, you might want to skip them if you have little ones who don't like walking too much. And if you choose to walk - pack your best walking shoes.

Stay outside
If staying outside of the main city is possible with your plans - try to make that a reality. The pieces for the heart of the city can be tripled and more than you'd pay for staying outside of central London. Depending on who you are travelling with, you can take a look at the cheap hostels that are available. And, of course, make sure you check out what deals are available too.

Food
Although you might want to put some budget into eating in one of London's top-rated restaurants - the food scene has enough budget food to mean you eat incredibly well without blowing a budget. Depending on your accommodation, you could also head to a supermarket and stock up on some essentials. And it is highly advisable to take a reusable water bottle with you.

Here are some fantastic budget eats:
Norman's Cafe - great for stuff like hot tea and chip butties.
Roti King - Malaysian roti and something to dip them in (early evening avoids the queues)
Mr Bao - Great fluffy buns and other small plates
Club Mexican - vegan tacos on a 3 for £10 deal

Free Attractions
The free attractions can be pretty spread out, but with some planning, you can get between them with relative ease. Here are some of the best places to go for free in London - but it is always worth checking out free comedy and live music nights, which you can find almost every night. Natural History Museum and the Grant Museum of Zoology - extinct animals and plenty of other otherworldly things to see.

For Roman artefacts, check out the London Mithraeum
The Tate Modern has some stunning performances, paintings and photographs.
The Wallace Collection has Old Masters paintings, armouries, a beautiful courtyard and decorative arts too.
If nature is your thinking, then Epping Forest has 55,000 ancient treats and plenty of rare bugs and plants.

The best way to make sure your London trip is budget friendly is to book ahead, always look for coupons and deals, check the websites of the venues you want to go to for reduced prices or free entry and grab an oyster card!
