As an adult, chances are you're well aware of what it takes to keep yourself clean and smelling fresh (and would feel pretty self conscious if you were out in public and hadn't done your usual bath/ shower/ pamper routine). However, do you have routines in place that could possibly be improved? Sometimes we get so stuck into the way we’ve always done things that we don’t think about improvement. That’s not always a bad idea - do you need that moisturising cream that costs hundreds and you can only apply while doing a handstand on the fourth Thursday of the month? Doubtful! Here are some things to consider.
Shaving Habits & Routine
It’s very easy to get into bad habits with shaving. That’s not to say you need to have perfectly hairless pits or legs - no judgement here, it’s your body - but it’s good to have some routine. Mistakes can come easily though, as you might stick with the same razor for too long, shave without proper lubrication, or forget to change the blades often enough. This can cause irritation and ingrown hairs, which build up over time until you realise your skin isn’t looking its best. Switching to a sharper blade sooner than you think necessary, preparing the skin with warm water, and using a balm perfect for your skin with vitamins and enriching ingredients like aloe vera can be a great option.
Water Quality & Characteristics
The water coming out of your tap may not be as harmless as it looks. Hard water is known to have minerals that can leave residue on your skin and hair, sometimes drying them out or making hair feel brittle. This is why people increasingly turn to filters designed specifically for showers, and a good example is the Hello Klean filter, which attaches easily to your showerhead and helps soften the water, giving your hair a much better chance of staying smooth and healthy. The small investment can pay off quickly, especially if you’ve been struggling with dryness or dullness despite using good products.
Tongue Care
Most people brush their teeth twice a day and consider the job done, but a lot of bacteria and buildup remain on the tongue, which can affect not just breath but the overall cleanliness of the mouth. Adding a tongue scraper or gently brushing your tongue each time you clean your teeth helps clear away that layer. It takes seconds, but the impact is noticeable almost immediately. Combined with flossing, that should round out your oral hygiene and makes the whole routine feel more complete. At the very least, however, consider how you’re brushing your teeth - most people go side to side, but round circles is always best.
