Rimmel's Kate Moss Matte Collection: Shade 101

Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipsticks- £5.49 (link)

I realised at the beginning of autumn that I had a distinct lack of matte lipsticks in my life, and so naturally I've been lusting after this little collection by Kate for a while now. On a recent shopping trip I picked up shade 101- while there were some gorgeous plums and reds that were calling my name I decided this pretty dusky pink would be a nice everyday choice that I'd get plenty of use out of (although I'll definitely have to make a trip to pick up shade 107 at some point, it looks like an autumn/winter staple!)

The formulation of this lipstick really is gorgeous, velvety and extremely smooth to apply. While it's marketed as a 'matte' collection, the finish is definitely not fully matte- this gives it the benefit of being much easier to wear and less drying than true matte lip products. Shade 101 is a medium dusky pink, although I find that once it's applied it looks a bit lighter than you'd expect. As I'm the colour of an anaemic milk bottle it's not a problem for me, but something to consider if you have more of a tanned or medium skin tone. The one issue I have with this is that being such a light colour it shows up any dryness or flaws on the lips and so you do have to do a bit of prep beforehand, a once over with a Lush lip scrub and a bit of balm does the trick. I'd have thought being a more matte formulation it might have lasted a bit longer, but it seems to wear for around the same two or three hours that most of my lipsticks last for.

Overall I like this lipstick a lot, this particular colour isn't going to make much of a statement but is a nice choice for day to day or to wear with heavier eye makeup. I like that they're quite inexpensive compared with lipsticks from similar high street brands, and with good old Superdrug's three for two deals you always end up paying a bit less.

What's your favourite shade from the Kate Moss matte collection?

  10. I'm not a huge fan of Kate Moss but the lipsticks she does with Rimmel are amazing. For the price it's such a steal. I wear mine more than I do the more expensive brands. The color, look, feel and payoff is so gorgeous. This shade suits your skin tone perfectly.

  12. Its too funny that I'm seeing this post right now. I actually saw this line today for the first time. I picked up a couple colors to check them out, and then decided against purchasing one because the packaging seemed cheap to me. But, after seeing how that shade looks on you (and I have a similar skin tone), I am really considering purchasing it... so thank you! :)
