Loreal 'Skin Perfection' Micellar Water Makeup Remover: Review

Wednesday, July 17, 2013

I'll admit- I never really got the whole 'micellar water' hype up until recently. To me makeup remover is possibly one of the most boring beauty products out there, and I never understood how people could rave on about it so much. I'd been happily plodding along with a cheap Garnier makeup remover for years which did the job fine- so my thoughts were, how much better could it possibly get? As it turns out, quite a lot better.

Being a beauty blogger and lover of cosmetics, applying makeup is never boring for me. It's all sunshine and sparkles when I'm putting it on my face in the morning, and I like seeing myself look progressively better (or progressively less scary and dead looking) with every layer of product. But when it's time to get it all off when I'm half asleep before bed, well that's where the fun stops. I've lost many hours of my life armed with a handful of cotton pads, and what I now know to be a sub standard makeup remover, trying to remove the day's makeup from my face. And so after trying this product for the first time, I knew I'd never look back (ooo dramatic statement indeed).

I'm not suggesting this is some kind of miracle product by any means, you obviously don't tap your heels together three times and the makeup vanishes (although that would be just marvellous- someone invent that please). But it does make life SO much easier. It quickly removes dark lipstick and even crispy layers upon layers of mascara without too much scrubbing at the eyes, which we all know is pure evil to remove. It's twice as quick as any other makeup remover I've tried, and unlike Bioderma and similar brands it's inexpensive and easy to find. Another plus point of this is how mild it is, I don't recommend squeezing it into your eyeball (unless you're into that- whatever floats your boat) but when it does get in your eye it feels exactly like water. My previous makeup removers have often stung my eyes when I've been removing mascara, maybe my own fault for over saturating the cotton pad but hey ho. But it's something that's just not a problem with this product. A few people have said to me on Twitter that this is quite a close dupe for Bioderma, and whereas usually I'd be lusting over the more expensive version- when it comes to a product to get makeup off my face I'm really not too fussed. This does the job really well, and I do highly recommend it. I got mine from Asda for less than a fiver, you can also get it at Boots and Superdrug.

Have you tried this, or any other Micellar water? What do you think of them?

  5. This makeup remover sounds really good Stacey! I really hate to scrub my eyes to fully remove my eyeliner and thick eye makeup, especially if the cleansing oil gets to my eyeballs and sting. I don't think this product available at where I live though so I have to order online lol but thank you for the review :)

  6. I really want to try this..I bought and reviewed Bioderma but since then I've found it makes my face sticky?! I'm not sure how that's possible but my skin has it's own mind I swear.
Anyway, this would definitely be great to try and I guess it's not too expensive if my skin decides to fall out with it.

  8. I know what you mean about removing makeup, I HATE it but it has to be done. Some days as much as I love mascara if I know it is going to be a late night I don't wear any just so I don't have to remove it!
I am yet to find an eye makeup remover that doesn't burn the crap out of my eyes.

  9. But wouldn't it be totally awesome if we could tap our heels together three times and the make up would disappear? Sign me up for that one when you find that product. Hope you have a great day.

  10. Now this sounds like something that'd make getting into bed 5times faster! Although, tapping your heels and getting of makeup instead of wondering around Oz sounds amazing :D

  19. Haha someone really DOES need to invent the clicking heels method...
I've never tried a micellar water either, but for £3.33 I might have to - wonder if I too will never look back :D

  20. I definitely need to try this! As much as I love applying make-up, I love taking it off at the end of the day and I'm always willing to try something new.
