Maybelline Colour Tattoos: £4.99 from Superdrug and Boots

I've always been a bit undecided about these Colour Tattoos by Maybelline, on more than one occasion I've stood in Superdrug with one in my hand and ended up putting it back. When my holy grail shadow pencils by Urban Decay came into my life, a tonne of cream eyeshadow that I adored and had promised to love forever were cruelly neglected and cast-off to the back of my makeup collection. Although I'm a firm believer in the fact that you can never have too much makeup, it seemed a bit pointless buying something I was never going to use; usually I can justify buying repeats of things I really don't need if they perform a certain function (like being travel friendly) but these bulky little pots aren't even that. But as soon as I laid eyes on Metallic Pomegranate I had to have it, it's the perfect 'neutral with a twist' shade I've been obsessed with lately and is the epitome of an autumn eyeshadow colour. I admit- seasonal colour trends get me every time!

The texture is gorgeous, smooth and blendable and despite being quite glittery it doesn't feel rough or gritty in the slightest. As with most cream products the pigmentation is way up there, you need such a small amount to cover your lid. I can see this being one of those never ending products that you just can't make a dent in no matter how often you use it; the staying power is unbelievable too, once this sets on the skin it's not going anywhere until you remove your makeup. Even after washing off the swatch from the picture above, most of it was still on my arm up until I got a bath that night- I had a couple of people asking if I'd burned myself (this always happens when I'm swatching long lasting lipsticks too #bloggerproblems). Speaking of the obvious the colour is incredible, a dark bronze with burgundy undertones and gold shimmer- errmm yes please! I'm definitely not a fan of brightly coloured eyeshadow (I've tried it a few times and I do genuinely look horrendous so this is a great way of adding a bit of colour while still keeping it quite neutral. I've been loving this as a base for Mac's Cranberry eyeshadow, another new favourite in a similar kind of neutral/ burgundy shade.

It's fair to say that cream eyeshadow has come a long way since I used to play around with makeup in my pre-teen years. I remember I when I was about twelve I had a 'makeup look' that consisted of a thick baby pink metallic cream eyeshadow applied to just my eyelid with my finger. Oh yes, it looked as hideous as it sounds especially as it used to crease within seconds (although clearly I thought I was the bees knees parading around my bedroom). After realising the errors of my ways it was a long time before I tried cream eyeshadow again but I'm glad I did, they're long wearing and smooth and in my opinion work so much better as eyeshadow bases than regular primers. I can definitely see Metallic Pomegranate being a staple product in my everyday makeup routine over the autumn and winter; I highly recommend if like me you want something different without being- well, you know, different.

Have you tried Maybelline's Colour Tattoos? Which is your favourite shade?
